# Caption meme maker

The modern format: your caption in a plain bar above the picture, wrapped neatly at any length. Add a picture, type the joke, save it. Nothing leaves your browser.

## How the caption format works

Instead of outlined letters on top of the picture, the joke sits in its own bar, so it stays readable whatever the picture looks like and the picture stays uncovered. Type the caption and the bar grows to fit; press Enter for a line break of your own.

- **Text size** is a share of the picture's width, so the caption looks the same on a small screenshot and a large photo. Narrow pictures are enlarged to 600 px wide first.
- **Above or below** moves the bar; **Left** alignment suits longer, chattier captions.
- **Colours**: black on white is the classic; Swap colours gives white on black.

## Captions that land

Lowercase, plain wording and no full stop is the usual tone of the format. Describe the situation and let the picture be the punchline. League Spartan, a free geometric font, keeps that clean, modern look.

**Entering a caption contest?** When a brand's meme giveaway or a new app wants your email address first, sign up with [a free temporary inbox from CleanTempMail](https://cleantempmail.com/). The confirmation arrives there, and the follow-up newsletters never reach your real inbox.

## Questions

**How long can the caption be?**

As long as you like. The bar grows with every line, and if a single word is too long for the width the text gets a little smaller. Shorter is usually funnier.

**Can I put the caption under the picture?**

Yes. Choose Below under Bar. Everything else, from the font to the colours, works the same way.

**Is my picture uploaded?**

No. The caption and picture are put together by your browser on this page, and the saved file goes straight to your device.

**Can I caption any picture I find?**

Adding a caption doesn't change who owns a picture. Your own photos and freely licensed images are the safe choice, especially for anything you post publicly.
