# Demotivational poster maker

A calm picture, a grand title, and one line underneath that lets all the air out. Add your picture, write both, and save the poster. Nothing is uploaded.

## The anatomy of a demotivational poster

The format borrows the look of the earnest posters found in offices: a black field, a picture with a thin white rule around it, one large word in spaced capitals and a sentence underneath. Here the picture always fills 80 percent of the poster's width, and its size is set between 500 and 1,600 px wide so the text stays sharp.

The classic posters were set in a Times-style serif. Tinos, the default here, is a free font drawn with the same letter widths as Times New Roman, so it has the right look. Letter spacing opens up the title; the caption stays plain.

## Writing the joke

1. **Pick a noble-sounding title.** One word works best: Teamwork, Courage, Ambition, Patience.
2. **Undercut it in the caption.** Start as if you meant it, then let the last few words sink the whole thing.
3. **Choose a dignified picture.** Sunsets, mountains and serious pets make the contrast funnier than a picture that is already silly.

## Questions

**How big is the saved poster?**

The width is the picture's width divided by 0.8. Its height depends on your picture and on how many lines the title and caption take. The output size is shown above the Download button.

**Can I change the black frame?**

Yes. Pick any frame colour, and a colour for the text and border. A dark navy or deep red frame with white text keeps the poster look.

**Are my pictures kept anywhere?**

No. The poster is drawn by your browser and saved straight to your device. Close the page and nothing remains.

**Can I use any photo for the poster?**

Use photos you took or ones whose licence allows reuse. A frame and a title don't change who owns the picture.
